Sunny Day in Dongtan!

Happy Easter! Sunday was a very sunny day in Dongtan! Since we got here, it has been snowing, raining, and windy. It was so nice to have a warm weather day. It was about 60 degrees yesterday and clear skies through most of the day. We took advantage of the sunshine by playing some badminton with everyone. So armed with rackets, a couple cheap birdies, and an ipod with speakers, we had one intense game of badminton. Mind you, I have never played a serious badminton game in my LIFE! This was so much fun. Alex, Sean, Kim, Daniel, and I really worked out all of our work tension. Afterward we had dinner at a wonderful Korean restaurant. A perfect day!

The first picture is of two of the huge "Metapolis" buildings. Metapolis is a ongoing construction project in Dongtan. The idea is to have these 4 magnificent buildings as commercial/office space. You can't see the bottom of the buildings, but surrounding them is a super nice outdoor shopping and park area. Metapolis won't be complete for another five years, though :(

Dongtan is such a new city that the majority of the building have been built within the last five years. I've talked to several English teachers who have been here for awhile and they all say that Dongtan use to be fields and rice patties.

The other pictures are of us playing. Kim is the blonde haired girl. She is from Florida and actually lived in Mongolia for two years with the Peace Corps. She has a plan to live on all seven continents. This includes doing a Fulbright in Egypt and her next stop, teaching English in Romania.

Alex is the Asian girl. It's funny because everyone always thinks she's Korean. Her parents are actually Chinese though, and she was born and raised in Boston. She has learned to say, "Sorry I'm not Korean and can't speak Korean," very well at this point due to so much confusion here ha!

Sean is from Maine. He is my co-worker at CDI April, along with Alex. He teaches the little monsters their ABCs. He actually made a video from yesterday that I hope to post soon! I hope the sunshine continues!

Hi Kelley! (And Daniel!) I hope you had a chocolate Bunny sometime yesterday. I enjoy reading all your posts and hearing about your life in Korea! It is finally spring in the Midwest too, hooray, and I have about 4 weeks of classes left....which also means 4 weeks of grading!
